Results Are In!

Good morning all! Yesterday brought good news for Doug. The white blood count that was elevated is trending back down and the urine culture was negative! It seems the steroids that Doug is on and will remain on for the rest of his life has a tendency to raise the white blood count to an extent so this a such a relief as it could have been a number of things! He did not have a good night sleep on Sunday night so he was very tired yesterday. The physicians make their rounds early in the morning and if recall from yesterday's post there was a concern by one physician about Doug's abdomen being distended due to air. Well they arrived bright and early yesterday and this particular doctor said yet again that his stomach was distended when another physician spoke up and said but he does have PKD and there wasn't much room in his abdomen to begin with. That shut that doctor up pretty quick and he stated that Doug was ok to start back on a liquid diet. I am happy with the result and Doug didn't have to say a word! Poor guy, he hasn't had anything to eat or drink in almost 4 days, just ice chips so he is taking it very slow. During physician rounds yesterday afternoon his post-coordinator said that everything looks great and therapeutically Doug is ready for discharge. All he needs to do is to have solid foods before he can go home. Hopefully, the liquid diet goes well and he can move onto a solid food diet. Discharge could be today, could be Wednesday. I know he does not want to miss being home for Tanner's birthday but if he needs to stay another day Tanner will understand. We just want him better!!! Doug had a wonderful visit from Dan and Allison yesterday. It was great to see them and Dan looked great! The visit did seem to wear him out but with time his energy will return. Even though his surgery was done laparoscopically it was still major surgery and his body is getting use to now having one kidney and yes, you can live a normal healthy life with one kidney or Dan would not have given one of his away! I know that is a BIG fear for most people. You can in fact SHARE YOUR SPARE! Last night I took Claire and Tanner to visit Doug. We even took a family walk around the hallway to show them how well his is doing. Tanner's comment was 'This is what you do? You walk in circles all day!' Oh that child, he makes us laugh!!! It will be a nice surprise for the kids if Doug comes home today but I haven't said a word to them not to get their hopes up. Regardless, Tanner's birthday will be documented for Doug so even though he won't be there he can see his day in pictures! Until next time!
