And We Wait...

I was able to get away from the hospital for a few hours yesterday to shower, change clothes and take the kids to lunch before dropping them off at their evening sleepovers. Claire slept at her friend Lauren's (thank you to Lauren's parents) and Tanner is with Grandma and Grandpa Jauch (thank you Mom and Dad). It was so good to see them and they can't wait to see their Dad soon! I also had a quick 30 minutes, after the police pulled me over, to shop for Tanner's birthday which is next Tuesday, March 31st. All he really wants is for his Dad to come home...and a dirt bike but mostly his Dad to be at home with us! Doug is doing better and resting comfortably finally! While I was away yesterday he went on a long walk with his mom and after his mom, sister and brother-in-law left last night when I returned we went on another long walk. Every step further than the time before is progress. The walk wore him out and he was given some pain medicine so he has finally been able to sleep soundly and snore, loudly! With that I'd say things are getting back to normal. ;) He has been given four rounds of medicine to wake up his intestines with no luck. He will now get the heavy-duty medicine this morning. They just came in to do another x-ray and we had another long walk. So we wait and hope that things start progressing soon. The sooner his intestines wake up, the sooner he can re-start a liquid diet, the sooner he can re-start solid foods and the sooner he can be released from the hospital hopefully in time for Tanner's birthday. Dan made it safely to the hotel yesterday where he will continue his recovery. He is still in pain around his incision site but in time that will subside so until then he will continue his pain medicine he was released with. He has also developed a little bit of a cough so that has been uncomfortable for him while trying to sleep and they will keep an eye on it. Dan also has a sleepy intestine but hopefully that will resolve soon as well. I was not here when he was discharged yesterday but Allison snapped a picture of the boys together that you will find below. Once again, we are humbled and grateful for the friendship we have with Dan and Allison and that they chose to take this journey with us. It has definitely been a group effort! Love you both! Thanks for reading and I will update as soon as I can!!
